International Summer School “Advocacy for Academic Freedom and Human Rights”


Students and higher education professionals are invited to apply for the International Summer School “Advocacy for Academic Freedom & Human Rights: Internationalization in a Fragmented World”.

Programme dates:

  • Online sessions: 13–14 August 2026

  • On-site programme: 17–21 August 2026

Utrecht University, Netherlands

About the programme:
This summer school addresses current challenges to academic freedom, human rights, and internationalization in higher education. Through lectures, discussions, and interactive sessions with international experts, participants will explore the relationship between academic freedom, democracy, and human rights, and develop practical advocacy skills to support scholars and institutions at risk.

Who can apply:

  • Master’s and PhD students from all disciplines

  • Higher education professionals (e.g. policy advisors, university staff in internationalization or higher education policy)

Costs:

  • Course fee: €400 (includes course materials)

  • Housing fee: €275 (arranged by Utrecht Summer School)

Funding:
Students from Utrecht Network member universities may be eligible for a €250 mobility grant.
