Prof. dr. Andreja Jaklič addressed the participants of this year’s “The Value of Innovation: Health is Wealth” conference organized by the Forum of International Research & Development Pharmaceutical Companies – EIG. She highlighted the multifaceted role of health in the economic and societal development. “The true power of nations is no longer measured solely by armies, borders, or markets, but by the health, resilience, and vitality of their people,” she said.

The international conference “Diplomacy 2.0: New Realities, New Agency, New Strategies” organised by CDELS and EMUNI University will take place on 17 and 18 September 2026 in Koper, Slovenia. The conference will focus on the developments in modern diplomacy in the context of accelerated technological, geopolitical, and societal changes. The General Assembly of the European Association for Development Research and Training Institutes (EADI) was held on 19 May 2026. At the assembly, CDELS member assoc. prof. dr. Jana Arbeiter was elected to EADI's Executive Committee. This is an important recognition of her research and professional work in the field of development studies. Congratulations.

Join prof. dr. Andreja Jaklič from CDELS and other speakers on 26 May 2026 in CD Club in discussing the latest developments in the fields of pharmaceuticals and healthcare.

On 15 May 2026, Head of CDELS prof. dr. Boštjan Udovič presented the results of a survey among staff at the Slovenian research organisations regarding career challenges and opportunities they encounter in Slovenia. The presentation took place at the Rectorate of the University of Maribor (UM) and was attended by both research and professional staff.

On 11 May 2026, CDELS hosted Matija Renčelj, Director of Strategy & Operations at the European Space Policy Institute (ESPI), for a lecture on space policy and industry in the EU. During the lecture, Mr. Renčelj outlined how space policy is managed in the EU and presented the dynamics of the European space industry’s development and current trends in this field.

While space explorations have led to the development of many innovations that increase sustainability on Earth, an upsurge in commercial space activities has raised concerns regarding sustainability in space. An event organised by CDELS at UL FDV at the end of 2025 focused on the importance of space research and innovations for sustainable development on Earth as well as the related challenges and opportunities. On 7 May 2026, the Open Slot for Science at the Faculty of Social Sciences (University of Ljubljana) was dedicated to wage inequalities. Gaja Mavri, a junior researcher at CDELS, explained how internationalisation affects wage inequality in exporting and non-exporting firms.

On 5 May 2026, prof. dr. Andreja Jaklič from CDELS participated in an event on convergence and competitiveness, the enlargement and future of Europe, organised by the Think Europe think tank and the European Commission Representation in Ljubljana. At the event, she was part of a panel that discussed global geopolitical changes and their impact on the developments and relations in Europe.

Assist. prof. dr. Jana Arbeiter, prof. dr. emerita Maja Bučar and prof. dr. Boštjan Udovič (all members of CDELS) published a chapter about the role of pre-accession assistance in building a functional State. The chapter presents the case of Slovenia and how it benefited significantly from pre-accession assistance.
