Abstract

Project Description

The research project titled "Modern Practices and Key Challenges of Employee Ownership in Slovenia" focuses on an in-depth analysis of companies in Slovenia where employees actively participate in ownership. The project's goal is to contribute to a better understanding of the scope and sustainability of such ownership models and to identify key challenges and opportunities for their development.

In the initial phase of the research, we will conduct a comprehensive review of the current state of employee ownership in Slovenia. We will establish a clear conceptual framework for employee ownership and define criteria that will allow for the identification of employee-owned companies. Using these criteria, in collaboration with informed stakeholders from the business sector and expert circles, we will identify a relevant population of employee-owned companies.

A particular emphasis will be placed on an in-depth analysis of three Slovenian companies where employees are also owners. In these cases, we will explore and analyze the key challenges these companies face in maintaining their ownership structure within the existing generation of employees.

The empirical part of the research will be based on conducting semi-structured interviews with key stakeholders in these companies. The collected data will enable a comparative analysis with international practices and serve as a basis for formulating concrete recommendations to improve the legislative and institutional framework governing employee ownership in Slovenia.

The research findings will significantly contribute to a better understanding of current practices and challenges faced by employee-owned companies and will provide guidelines for promoting the long-term sustainability of this ownership model in the Slovenian economic landscape.
