Abstract
Within the project Archiving and Curating the Queer Margins (ARKQ), researchers will develop the methodological and digital infrastructure needed to study memory activism and the cultural heritage of LGBTIQ+ communities in Southeastern and Eastern Europe. The project focuses on regional grassroots archives, festivals, and other actors that collect, preserve, curate, and transmit queer memories, thereby creating alternative infrastructures of remembrance.
ARKQ is a preparatory project for the ERC research project QEAST – Archiving and Curating the Margins: Queer Memory Activism and Infrastructures in Southeastern and Eastern Europe, which will combine ethnographic research with digital humanities approaches to study memory pioneers under socialism as well as contemporary archival networks, festivals, and other queer memory projects in the region. Particular attention will be paid to the ways in which queer memory is preserved, framed, and mobilised for activist purposes, as well as to how it travels across generations, places, and regions.
The ARKQ project (N6-0444) is funded by the Slovenian Research and Innovation Agency (ARIS) under the ERC Potencial funding scheme.
