    OBVESTILO ZA ŠTUDENTKE IN ŠTUDENTE, KI NAMERAVAJO MAGISTRSKO ALI DOKTORSKO DELO PISATI PRI DR. ROKU ZUPANČIČU.
    In order to avoid any unwanted surprises, let me inform you about the general rule pertaining to MA and PhD dispositions. Due to a great number of students working with me on their MA and PhD theses, teaching obligations and regular field trips that I have to complete in upcoming months, expect cca. 3-4 weeks before receiving feedback on a draft version of your dispositions.
     
    It is possible (theoretically) that your disposition is already good enough after 1st submission, but this happens rarely; from time to time with MA dispositions, and practically never with PhD dispositions. In most cases, the latter are subject to several rounds of revisions (two to three, sometimes even more, before they are ‘good enough’ to be officially submitted to the Doctoral Commission), whereas MA dispositions usually require one to two revisions. What do these words mean in practice?
     
    If you plan to enrol in the next study year of your PhD in September 2022, then it means you are advised to send me the first version of your PhD disposition in late February at the latest. After each feedback from me, you’ll normally “go home” with several questions that will have to be solved by you before the submission of the next draft. Resolving theoretical and methodological issues at PhD level usually cannot be resolved in two or three days, as this process requires substantial thinking and studying of relevant literature.

    With regard to MA theses, it is advised to send the first draft of your disposition cca. three months before the official deadline for submitting dispositions in “Spletni referat”.

    Rok Zupančič, PhD, is Associate Professor at the University of Ljubljana (UL), Faculty of Social Sciences. He authored or co-authored 23 peer-reviewed papers, 4 monographs, 6 book chapters and 20 presentations at academic conferences. Most of the publications are related to peacebuilding in Southeast European post-conflict societies and international security in general (see Bibliography for details).
