Objectives and competences
To help students develop the knowledge and skills required to effectively communicate in Italian speaking academic settings. Students will be able to communicate in Italian academic setting, recognize, understand and summarize the gist of basic texts in the field of social sciences. They will be able to prepare and deliver efficient public presentations in Italian.
Content (Syllabus outline)
1. Reading and analysis of authentic social science texts (coursebooks, monographs, academic papers, documents); 2. Exercises for acquiring and expanding basic social science vocabulary and terminology in Italian; 3. Exercises in coherent summarising and paraphrasing of written and oral messages; 4. Exercises in the use of grammatical and functional structures, typical of academic social science discourse; 5. Study of principles of effective public speaking in Italian language.
Intended learning outcomes:
Students will be able to: 1. produce simpler academic texts based on standardized formats (brief reports, questionnaires); 2. understand and evaluate simpler authentic journalistic and social science texts (coursebooks, monographs, academic papers, newspaper articles, official documents), oral and audio-video documents; 3. use basic social science vocabulary and terminology; 4. use grammatical and functional structures relevant for the successful functioning within the social science field; 5. use different types of sources for study purposes and search for academic sources in Italian 6. deliver efficient oral presentations in Italian;
Learning and teaching methods:
Practical work, oral presentation of seminar paper, written and oral assessment, active participation, e-learning.
