Objectives and competences
The objective of the course is to transfer to the students knowledge in the area of international economic relations through the application of analytical tools of international political economy. Through the understanding of the relations between different actors in international economy it is possible to explain the control of the processes and impact of power structures in the field of international political economy.
COMPETENCES:
The course builds the following competences:
knowledge of the basics of international political economy
understanding of the interactions of power structures in international environment
ability to connect the developments in different fields of international political economy
capability of oral and written communications
basic research skills.
Content (Syllabus outline)
Definition and key concepts of international political economy. Theoretical approaches to international political economy, based on the power structures and their interrelationships. Structures of power in the global socio-economic set-up, the meaning of structures and processes. Primary power structures: security, production, finance and knowledge and related sub-structures. Special analysis of international trade structure as an example to international regime (WTO). The mechanisms of structural changes and dynamic interrelationships.
Intended learning outcomes:
Student:
Knows the basic power structures of international political economy
Can describe the interrelations of different power structures
Is capable of understanding and analyzing developments in international economy with the application of international political economy’ tools.
Learning and teaching methods:
Lectures and seminars with oral presentations.
Assessment
Written exam 80 %. The precondition for access to the exam is the presentation of the research problem that brings 20 % of the grade.
