Students are allowed to participate in the course provided that they have completed the enrolment procedure.

Objectives and competences

Objectives: ? To be familiar with standard language and to use the acquired knowledge in text understanding and analysis ? To be able to analyse and produce journalistic texts of different genres Competences: ? To acquire stylistic competences in the field of specialised communication. ? To use adequate language and style in oral as well as in written communication in students’ field of study. ? To understand, analyse and evaluate the texts of journalism.

Content (Syllabus outline)

The course offers a broader linguistic and normative perspective of the contemporary Slovenian standard language and more specific insight into the text-linguistics and stylistic of journalism. In the first part of the course, students will repeat the required linguistic competences. They will be trained to use the linguistic resources and to correct linguistic errors in their own texts. In the second part of the course, they will be trained to recognise and use the style and patterns of different types and genres of jornalistic texts. Both parts will combine theoretical and practical approaches to linguistic work with relevant texts.

Intended learning outcomes:

- The student recollect linguistic-stylistic knowledge on the texts in their field of study; - they discuss and compare the linguistic strategies used in jornalistic texts; - they acquire knowledge for their understanding, analysis and evaluation; - they are able to use the theoretical knowledge for independent and efficient production of texts.

- lectures - seminar - coursework and assignments - individual work in online classroom

Assessment

Coursework 33%, presentation 33% , written test, oral exam 34%. Before the final oral exam students should obtain a pass grade for the following assignments: written test and a short oral presentation.
