Prerequisits:

Students are allowed to participate in the course provided that they have completed the enrolment procedure. Recommended knowledge of the course Basics of Law.

Objectives and competences

Objectives: To give students an understanding of how international law works in the international community and why it is important for the functioning and understanding the international community. Competences: The students will master and understand the role of international law in the international community. They will be able to analyze events in international politics and asses what is and what is not in conformity with international law.

Content (Syllabus outline)

Students learn norms that govern relations in the international community and thereby what these relations should be. They get to know the sources of international law and subjects from states to individual persons, their basic rights and duties. They become familiar with objects, means of unilateral and peaceful settlement of disputes as well as collective security. Topics will be dealt with a sociological and political science approach, analyzed will be development trends and rules of behavior in the emerging international order.
