Prerequisits:

Students are allowed to participate in the course provided that they have completed the enrolment procedure. Knowledge of basic economics is recommended. The course builds on the knowledge gained in the undergraduate courses Principles of Economics and International Economic Relations and to some degree also the courses International Political Economy and European Economic Integration.

Objectives and competences

Objectives: To develop basic knowledge of the concepts in the field of international finance and international monetary system. To teach students how to apply this knowledge to analyse concrete issues in international finance. To learn and understand the process of negotiations of the EU Multiannual Financial Framework. Competence: Capability of knowing and understanding the basic concepts in international finance and international monetary system (theories, history and institutions). Enhanced negotiation skills and knowledge and understanding of EU Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF). Comprehension of English terminology in international finance and MFF official documents, public presentation and analytical skills for preparation of official member state policy positions.

Intended learning outcomes:

Lectures, recitations, case studies, simulation of Multiannual Financial Framework negotiations, preparation of 3 short policy documents.
