Objectives and competences

Students will get necessary skills to cope with the social challenges and critical social measurement of, not always advanced, changes. Student obtains competence of understanding, analysis and synthesis and (slef)critical use of the knowledge of the developmental issues, which allows him research skils and (political) decision-making in the globalized world.

Content (Syllabus outline)

We live in the societies where development is an important driver of change. Developmen is not necessarily the same as progress, which is reflected in the increasing differences in most of today's globalized society. The course will acquainted students with the theories of development and monitoring methodologies of monitoring of (social) changes. Students will recognize that social/developmental indicators are not something neutral. They will acquire the necessary skills to cope with the social challenges and critical social measurement, not always advanced, changes.

Intended learning outcomes:

The student defines and interprets the process of development and by the arguments applied his/her knowledge to concrete case studies.

Learning and teaching methods:

Lectures, seminars, individual or group work with professors, field work.

Assessment

- 25 % response papers; - 25 % quiz; - 30 % group presentation; - 20 % book review. For completing the course, students attendance is mandatory.
