Prerequisits:
Students are allowed to participate in the course provided that they have completed the enrolment procedure.
It is recommended that student has the basic knowledge of international relations and international economy/ development studies.
80% presence at seminars is pre-requisite to enter exam.
Objectives and competences
The objective of the course is to align, through the analyses of contemporary development problems, the knowledge of theories of international economic relations and international political economy with their practical implementation.
This way the students are empowered to, with the help of systematic analytical approach, distinguish the backgrounds of contemporary events and place them within appropriate political and economic framework.
COMPETENCES:
The student gains the capabilities to recognise and interlink the events in international arena. Skills to analyse and syntheses developments. Capability of critical thought and formulation of independent assessment. Development of research skills, team -work and written communication skills.
Content (Syllabus outline)
Identification of contemporary development issues and their detailed presentation. Contemporary development dilemmas, theoretical responses and practical challenges of international development. 2. International development cooperation: trends in development assistance, politics and principles of international development cooperation, main actors, entrance of new donors, key challenges of international development cooperation. 3. New definitions of international development cooperation. 4. Presentation, analyses and assessment of Sustainable development goals.
Intended learning outcomes:
Complex knowledge of contemporary international events in the area of development cooperation. Good understanding of interrelations among the actors in international arena. Capability of fact-based formulation of independent opinion based on achieved overview of development problems.
Learning and teaching methods:
Seminars and group work with professor on selected case studies.
