Prerequisits:

Students are allowed to participate in the course provided that they have completed the enrolment procedure. The course upgrades the knowledge obtained in the following courses: International Relations, Theories and Methodologies of International Relations and International Political Economy.

Objectives and competences

The objectives of the course are: to give students an advanced knowledge about the phenomenon of EU actorness; to equip students with theoretical understanding of the EU actorness; to empower students with knowledge about the basic theoretical approaches for the analysis of the European integration since 1957; to assess the level and the conditions of the EU integration (with their problems and advantages). Competences, acquired by students, are: -the ability of analysing, synthetizing and using appropriate theoretical approaches to evaluate the current situation; -the capability to acquire, analyse and evaluate and evaluate data relevant for the application of the existing EU integration theories and the development of the new ones; -the ability of establishing a critical distance towards the object of analysis; -the development of written and oral production, by using adequate terms and concepts.

Intended learning outcomes:

The intended learning outcomes are: -students are familiar with the basic theories of European integration and are able to assess them critically; -students are able to apply the European integration theories in practice; -student develop their capabilities to link together knowledge from other courses and to upgrade it with the instrumentarium of theories of European integration; -students have the competence to understand the role of European integration theories in the ‘box’ of IR theories and to apply the European integration theories in practice and vice versa.

Learning and teaching methods:

- Lectures and active in-class participation: - interactive seminar work based on the study literature; - individual seminar work (analysis of selected theoretical texts).

Assessment

Final mark consists of: - seminar work with oral defence 50 % - mid-term written exam 30 % - interactive seminar assignments 20 %
