Objectives and competences

The objective of the course is to explain theoretical, conceptual and methodological origins for understanding of the evolution of basic processes in EU development. The target is comprehensive understanding of development processes within EU integration as they are reflected in selected EU policies. Attention is given to development of basic competences in the field of EU macro and micro finance, with the objective to qualify the students to know how to apply the given theoretical knowledge on EU for the interpretation of current events and solution of specific open problems. COMPETENCES: The course provides students with the following competences: Understanding of the EU integration processes; Ability of independent analysis in various fields of EU policies; Solving the specific problems is the field of EU policies; Oral and written communication skills; Basic research skills.

Content (Syllabus outline)

The course addresses socio-economic development of EU in the context of growing economic integration. Attention is given to the understanding of socio-economic content of individual development phases and selection of strategic orientation of EU from creation of the internal market norms and joint currency to the vision of implementation of knowledge economy and society. Analyses of selected EU policies is undertaken- like regional policy, agricultural policy, entrepreneurship and innovation promotion, research and development policy, macro-financial policies at EU level, with basic characteristics of European monetary integration and public finance at EU level. Also, the complexity of EU budget is addressed, with special reference to distribution of funds according to the policy priorities.

Intended learning outcomes:

Student: Knows the basic processes of EU economic integration and related strategies; Can describe the key elements of selected EU policies; Is capable of analyzing developments, which effect economic and social development of EU.

Learning and teaching methods:

Seminars, case studies and simulations of negotiations about selected theme/ policies.
