Prerequisits:

Students are allowed to participate in the course provided that they have completed the enrolment procedure. Student must fulfill all obligations before he/she may take the exam.

Objectives and competences

The students will deepen the knowledge in some core sciences that are foundation of the geopolitics like: geography, history, sociology and politology. Based on that they will be able to understand the global order, critical thinking and critical analysis of different decisions by national governments that are implementing national interests. COMPETENCES: Students are able of critical discourse in the area of national interests, implementation of different acts that may lead to the confrontation. At the same time they are able to critical recognize the background of such acts and its consequences.

Content (Syllabus outline)

Student will get knowledge in the area of the evolutional development of geopolitics, terminological foundation and clarification on the area of geostrategy, strategy, international relations, political geography. Students will confront the differences between historical development on one side and social along with the technological development of societies on the other. With the help of theoretical knowledge they will be able to apply the geopolitical determinations into the area of interests of different nations. Special emphasis is given to the parameters of geopolitical implications that define different acts of governments such as: water security, energy security and food security.

Intended learning outcomes:

Students develop critical thinking based on the theoretical knowledge in the area of geopolitics. They have to be able in detecting different interests that determine actions in getting them realized.

Learning and teaching methods:

Lectures are based on individual preparation of the students (pre-published on the web) reading material with active participation in the discussion. At the seminar the students are obliged to prepare group seminar paper, its presentation and active participation at the questions and answers section.

Assessment

80 % examination is based on written exam 20 % seminar paper
