Teme mojega raziskovanja so državljanstvo, javnost, populizem in rasizem, alternativni mediji, spol in migracije. Med novejšimi knjigami so Mediji in spol: Strukture in prakse neenakosti (ur. z B. Luthar, FDV, 2019), Populism and the Web: Communicating Practices of Parties and Movements in Europe (ur. z B. Sauer, Routledge, 2017) in Contesting Integration, Engendering Migration: Theory and Practice (ur. s F. Anthias, Palgrave, 2014).

Raziskovalno in pedagoško sem gostovala na University of Helsinki, Central-European University v Budimpešti, University of Florence, Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität v Frankfurtu, na Loughborough University in University of Nijmegen. So-organizirala sem več mednarodnih konferenc, med njimi Gender Differentiation in Media Industries (2018), Moč alternativnih medijev: izkušnje iz jugo-vzhodne Evrope (2012) in Migrant Labour: Contested Integration, Prospects for Citizenship (2011).

Vodila in sodelovala sem pri več mednarodnih projektih. Trenutno koordiniram projekt POPMED, Politični in medijski populizem: "begunska kriza" v Sloveniji in Avstriji (ARRS, 2018-2020, http://www.mirovni-institut.si/pop-med/) in sem vodja programske skupine na Mirovnem inštitutu Enakost in človekove pravice v dobi globalnega vladovanja (ARRS, 2020-2023, https://www.mirovni-institut.si/enakost).

Sem članica uredniškega odbora revij Global Media and Communication; Journal of Alternative and Community Media; Migracijske i etničke teme in Družboslovne razprave.
