Ethical Conduct in Scientific Publishing

The Unit for Research Ethics and Integrity of the University of Ljubljana cordially invites you to the workshop on ethical conduct in scientific publishing, which will be held on Tuesday, 24 February 2026, from 4 to 5.30 pm at the Rectorate’s Ivan Hribar Hall (Dvorana Ivana Hribarja), Kongresni trg 2, in co-organisation with the University Office for Doctoral Studies.

The main aim of the workshop is to raise awareness regarding various ethical aspects of scientific publishing with practical examples, and to promote critical reflection on good and bad scientific publishing practices in an interactive atmosphere.

Programme:
Drawing on the recently adopted UL Guidelines for Ethical Conduct in Scientific Publishing and relevant ethics codes, the workshop will tackle issues of authorship, co-authorship and appropriate recognition of other types of contributions. Research integrity violations and other unethical research practices in the field of publishing, acceptable and unacceptable practices of the use of GenUI, and the pitfalls of predatory journals and publishers will be examined. We will also address citation, respect of copyright and appropriate communication with editors, reviewers and various publics, as well as analyse a few existing and emerging problematic practices. The last part of the workshop will be dedicated to discussing open questions and dilemmas the participants face in their scientific publishing.

The workshop will be conducted in English by Prof. dr. Nina Peršak. You can register for the training HERE until 17 February 2026. Should you not be able to attend the training despite having registered, please withdraw your registration as soon as possible (by sending an e-mail to doktorski.studij@uni-lj.si) in order to give others on the waiting list the opportunity to attend.

Due to the limited number of places available, participants will receive confirmation of their attendance by e‑mail after the registration deadline.

A certificate of attendance will be issued to the attendees.
