The upcoming challenges of the use of artificial intelligence

Artificial intelligence systems are advancing at a rapid pace, not only affecting technological development but also society at large, as they are already outpacing the speed of human perception. This is also very important from an ethical point of view, as the field of AI is understood by a very small number of people in society, which limits social science analysis. In the area of legal regulation, important steps have recently been taken at the level of international organisations, but the key role is still played by individual countries and their interests. Similarly, in the field of defence and national security, the use of AI acts as an advanced power amplifier, which is much more accessible to non-state stakeholders, than other disruptive systems have been in the past.

At the roundtable discussion entitled: "The Upcoming Challenges of the Use of Artificial Intelligence", organised by the Chair of Defence Studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Euro-Atlantic Council of Slovenia, both the speakers and the participants agreed that more such discussions are needed, as this is the only way to develop the right responses.

Speakers of the roundtable:

  •  Dr. Marko Grobelnik, Institute Jozef Stefan
  •  Prof. DDr. Rudi Rizman, Faculty of Arts UL
  •  Prof. Dr. Vasilka Sancin, Head of Department of International Law, Faculty of Law UL
  •  Prof. Dr. Iztok Prezelj, President of EASS, Chair of Defence Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences UL
