Student-athlete status and student-coach status

Faculty of Social Sciences Awarded the Athlete-Friendly Education Certificate

On 11 February 2019, the Olympic Committee of Slovenia – Association of Sports Federations (OCS-ASF) awarded us the Athlete-Friendly Education certificate.

The decision to award the Athlete-Friendly Education certificate was approved at the correspondence meeting of the OCS-ASF Executive Board on 11 February 2019, on the proposal of the Expert Group of the Athlete-Friendly Education certificate and the Expert Council for Elite Sport.

Student status of a categorised athlete/coach of categorised athletes

Conditions for obtaining the student status of a categorised athlete/coach of a categorised athlete

A categorised athlete is an athlete who, on the basis of the categorisation of the Olympic Committee of Slovenia (hereinafter referred to as OCS), has obtained one of the following categorisations: World-class athlete;[E1] 

  • Olympic-class athlete;
  • World-class athlete;[E2][ZSM3]
  • International-class athlete;
  • Prospect-class athlete;
  • National-class athlete;
  • Youth-class athlete;
  • Coach status.

Supporting evidence includes:

  • proof of categorisation by the Olympic Committee of Slovenia (hereinafter OCS) as an olympic-, world-, international-, prospective-, national- or youth-class athlete, or an equivalent certificate from abroad;
  • proof from the national sports federation, or equivalent certification from abroad, of top performance at national or international level in the sports and disciplines concerned;
  • proof of the student’s appointment as coach of the national team or of an individual categorised athlete by the respective national sports federation;
  • proof of the disabled athlete’s top achievements at national or international level from the Sports Federation for the Disabled of Slovenia – Slovenian Paralympic Committee, or a certificate from the national sports federation certifying the athlete’s sporting achievements at national or international level.

On the basis of supporting evidence and the Instructions on the Specific Conditions for the Education of Categorised Athletes and Coaches of Categorised Athletes FSS, a student-athlete or a student-coach may be granted:

  • A status athlete;
  • B status athlete.

The granting of student-athlete and student-coach status is decided by the FSS commission for student affairs, which by decision grants the student the right to the special status until the end of the academic year in which the fulfilment of the conditions expires. 

Students with athlete and coach status also have a tutor for student athletes at the FSS to whom they can turn when balancing their sport and study commitments.
