Short content
This course considers communication and media academic research skills. Students learn primary and secondary sources, several methods of data gathering, their specifics, characteritics, rules and limitations and apply different methods for empirical analysis from quantitative and also qualitative approaches. The main focus is on formulating research questions and selecting appropriate empirical methods. The course combines qualitative with quantitative research and aims to highlight the main research steps: selection and formulation of a research problem, formulation of research questions, developing an academic argument, selection of proper methods for data gathering, making analysis and interpretation of data according to the theory and writing and presenting a research report. It aims to link fundamental research practice with the understanding, explantion and critical evaluation of a range of research elements and projects withing media and communications.
