Short content

The participants by the course will obtain the comprehensive knowledge about the socal and epistemological factors which have brought to the origin of modern science, and the social and ethical issues of recent and future scienific and technological progress. There will be presented the organizational and institutional framework for the progress of modern science through various phases: amateur, industrial, academic, postacademic phases. The emphasise in course will be given to ethical, legal and social implications of new emerging sciences and technologies (info-, bio-, nano- and cogno-sciences). The above mentioned ethical, social and legal implications of recent scientific and technological progress put in the forefront a lot of interesting topics of discussions: biosafety, biosecurity, dignity of human beings, reproductive and therapeutic cloning, open and closed model of science, science in the role of »playing God«, human enhancement, eugenics, public engagement in ethical issues of science etc. The additional thematics to be subject of discussion at the course: frauds and mistrusts in modern science, power in the science (Mathew effect), qualitative and quantitative dimension of research evaluation, organization of modern scientific community, the social networks in science and their impact on scientific creativity and productivity.
