How sustainable is the FSS in the pedagogical field?

The Faculty of Social Sciences, as part of the University of Ljubljana, is an important contributor to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including in particular in the field of teaching, where students learn about sustainable development in greater depth at each successive level.

For example, 67% of courses in first year programmes cover sustainability-related topics implicitly, while 28% cover different aspects of sustainability in more detail. At second year programmes 65% of courses contain sustainability-related content, while the direct inclusion of such content increases significantly compared to the first year (34% of courses), which can be attributed to the more narrowly focused courses at second year programmes and the specific knowledge that students acquire in the Master's programme. This is also confirmed by the curricula at third year programmes, where 63% of the courses provide more detailed coverage of different aspects of sustainability. Higher levels of study therefore indicate a greater integration of sustainability-related content, as well as a more diversified coverage of SDG, reflecting the interdisciplinary approach within subjects at higher levels of study.

In this context, the most common first-year subjects include SDG 9 (industry, innovation and infrastructure), SDG 10 (reducing inequality), SDG 8 (decent work and economic growth), SDG 4 (quality education) and SDG 16 (peace, justice and strong institutions). At second year programmes, SDG 8 (decent work and economic growth) is the most frequently addressed, followed by SDGs 10, 9, 4 and 16. At third year programmes, the same as first year, SDG 9 is the most frequently addressed, followed by SDGs 10, 8, 16 and 17 (partnerships for the goals).
