  • Boštjan Udovič, graduate of Political Science - International Relations (title: New Theories of International Exchange and Small States, 2004; supervisor: Prof. em. dr. Marjan Svetličič, co-supervisor: Prof. dr. Andreja Jaklič), PhD in Economics (title: Economic Security and Economic Diplomacy: The Case of Nova Ljubljanska banka in the Western Balkan Markets, 2009; supervisor: Prof. em. dr. Marjan Svetličič, co-supervisor: Prof. dr. Maja Zalaznik (ex-Makovec Brenčič). He is a professor of diplomacy at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Ljubljana and a visiting professor at PLUS University Salzburg. He is also a guest lecturer at other faculties and universities in Slovenia and abroad. His research interests include diplomatic studies, negotiation techniques, innovation policy and international political economy.

    He has been a member of numerous national and international advisory bodies, including the Strategic Council for Foreign Policy at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, the Strategic Council for Trade Diplomacy, the Council for International Development Cooperation, a member of the ExCo EADI, the JRC at the European Commission, the Programme Council of the Diplomatic Academy at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, the Special Autonomous Expert Commission for the Selection of Non-Professional Ambassadors, the Secretary General of the Slovenian Political Science Association, etc. In his work to date, he has been the leader or collaborator of numerous national and international research projects and (guest) editor of scientific journals or monographs.

    He has been a reviewer for foreign research and teaching projects, scholarship programmes and an external expert for the evaluation of study programmes. He frequently comments on foreign policy and diplomatic developments in the national and international media.

    He has received two awards: the prize for the best doctoral thesis (2010; Trimo Trebnje, d.d.) and the Festive Charter of the University of Ljubljana for young university teachers (2013).

    His bibliography includes more than 500 articles, of which more than 80 are peer-reviewed articles in the high-ranking SSCI and Scopus journals.
