Short content

In this course, students first learn about the theoretical and practical definitions of terrorism as a threat to individual, national, and international security, the objectives of terrorism, the types and forms of terrorism, the causes of terrorism, WMD terrorism, state terrorism, international terrorism, and the sponsorship of terrorism. The course also highlights numerous challenges in studying and understanding this security issue and phenomenon (e.g., the multitude of definitions of terrorism, difficulties in formulating a unified definition of terrorism within the UN and the EU). On a practical level, students learn about key terrorist organizations around the world (their structure, objectives, and strategies) and their activities.
