Short content

The course examines the social and ethical dimensions of the development of modern science, as well as the social and ethical aspects of scientific research practice. It introduces the social, epistemological, and institutional conditions that have shaped the development of modern science through its various stages, including the academic, industrial, and post-academic phases. Particular emphasis is placed on the social and ethical risks associated with the advancement of modern science. Modern science is radically transforming our culture, economy, and environment, while simultaneously confronting us with the fundamental ethical question of how to proceed. In this context, the course addresses issues such as human dignity, the boundary between eugenics and human enhancement, therapeutic and reproductive cloning, the emergence of living organisms from non-living matter, bioterrorism, the protection of privacy, and related concerns. The more practical component of the course focuses on ethical dilemmas arising in the context of qualitative research methods, data analysis, and the digital humanities.
