Short content
This course informs students about the conceptualisation of relations between power (first of all health politics), capital, medical and psychological knowledge and practices; it explains technologies of disciplining and regulating life processes on the individual level as well as on the level of population in general (biopolitics). It analyses concepts and symbolic meanings of physical and mental health/illness, (ab)normality, pathology and anomaly. It explores health inequalities, unequal access to healthcare, and production of pathological categories which determines value of human life and which at the same time are the effect of social and political inequities.
