Short content

At the course, students get to know the most important approaches to analysis of culture. Emphasis is on cultural studies, which focus on popular culture, nowadays probably the most influential cultural formation. More specifically, the core topics addressed at the course are: difference between cultural studies and the established romantic understanding of culture; the beginnings of the cultural studies; textual analysis; audience and subcultures research; cultural populism and relationship between culture and ecology. Presented are also the most important theoretical frameworks which inform research in the field of cultural studies (Marxism, structuralism, semiology, post-structuralism, post-Marxism etc.). At he seminar students visit various cultural events and learn to write their reviews.
