The course addresses the questions of public communication and/as political power. It addresses historical conceptualizations of notions of the public, public sphere and public opinion, as well as the role of the political public sphere in democracy. Students learn about the development of the public from a social category and its transformations into a measurable aggregate in the form of polling, and algorithmically generated communicative visibility. The course also focuses on the analysis of the selected topics, which will be on agenda of public discussions during the time the course will take place.
