Short content
The course introduces basic and more recent notions and discussions of religion in contemporary society with reference to theories of religion, culture and society drawn from the science of religion (sociology of religion, history of religion, and comparative religion). Following discussions of classical and contemporary theories of religion, culture and society, the course focuses on the post 9/11 discussions of religion and culture, religion and state, religion and politics, religion in the public sphere, religion and (human rights) law, religion and media, and religion in education.
