Short content

1. The importance of academic honesty and its full consideration. 2. Scientific research vs. writing. 3. Classification of scientific and professional sources. 4. Search for primary and secondary sources in the Faculty Library via internet and online classroom. Special attention is given to search of secondary sources in online databases. Mastering English terminology as keywords within search engines. 5. Analysis of sources to prepare a research outline. Elementary use of research methods. Mastering English terminology to select keywords in search engines. 6. Structure of various forms of scientific texts, i.e. scientific essay and seminar paper (introduction-main body-conclusion). Special attention is given to the form of scientific essay, its orthographic correctness (copy-editing). 7. Formatting scientific texts. Citing all types of sources (in-text citations and paraphrasing), preparing a list of references. Rules of text formation: the use of foreign language words, phrases, long citations, secondary citations, and other text-formatting rules (proof-reading). Differentiation between English and Slovenian terminology with respect to abbreviations, foreign-language words, capital letters, original text citation and primary sources. 8. Reading and analysis of authentic social science texts (course books, monographs, academic papers, documents). 9. Exercises for acquiring and expanding basic social science vocabulary and terminology. 10. Exercises in coherent summarising and paraphrasing of written and oral messages.
