Short content

The course will provide students with a fundamental conceptual and theoretical apparatus and practical knowledge on the role of journalism in contemporary globalised and conflictual capitalist society. Because media have been palpably gaining in importance and power in the last decades and now play a constitutive role in a wide number of social processes, the course will assess journalism contextually and in relation with wider social environment, in which it is necessarily embedded. Students will learn about these relations by acquiring knowledge on different theoretical and conceptual approaches to the media (for example mediatisation approach, critical theory and field theory) and by learning about institutions and key actors, which either have a fundamental role in media and journalism or have an important influence on them.
