How is Europe equipped to face the challenges of the future?

On Thursday 28 November, at a discussion on Faculty of Social Sciences, the Foreign Ministers of the three EU Member States, Tanja Fajon (Slovenia), Dr Gordan Grlić-Radman (Croatia) and Alexander Schallenberg (Austria), presented their views on the future of the European Union, which is facing complex global challenges caused by structural changes in the world economy, climate change, technological shifts and the deterioration of the security situation in Europe's neighbourhood.

The debate focused on the next steps in the EU enlargement process to the Western
Balkans and Eastern Europe, as the new EU institutional cycle begins. Participants
explored how both the EU and the future member states can best prepare for the next phase of enlargement to ensure that a larger Union is also a stronger one,  both internally and on the global stage

Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Dr. Iztok Prezelj, welcomed the participants with his opening address and pointed out that the Faculty is a place where meaningful discussions can take place and different views can be confronted with the aim of finding the common good.

The discussion was organised by the Centre for International Relations (CIR) and the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia.
