Aleš Debeljak Symposium

WHEN: 23. March at 1 p.m.

WHERE: Aleš Debeljak Academic Reading Room UL FDV

On the anniversary of the death of a university colleague and engaged public intellectual, who marked and charged us with his passionate analyses of contemporary cultural, intellectual, (geo)political and spiritual currents and ruptures, domestic and foreign guests will reflect on the dimensions, reasons and consequences of the changes in our world in the last decade.

The complex challenges of the time after the twilight of idols (as symbolically outlined in the titles of Debeljak's books) will be discussed at three thematically focused round tables:

  • How is the postmodern sphinx being transformed in unprecedented ways in the context of the ongoing digital revolution on the ruins of modernity?
  • What is happening to the role of knowledge and the university in this?
  • What are the main contours of the geopolitical ruptures of the Western civilization of the book, the cross and the crescent? All this from the perspective of our national and regional position between the Balkan footbridge and the Atlantic bridge.
