Ilija Tomanic Trivundza is Assistant Professor at the Department of Media and Communication Studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ljubljana (Slovenia).
His primary research interest spans across the field of visual communication with special focus on the social and political role of photography in contemporary mediated communication.
Prior to joining University of Ljubljana in 2003, he worked for three years in telecommunications industry. He obtained his PhD from University of Ljubljana on the topic of photojournalism and representations of national identity in 2010. Courses taught presently include: Introduction to Visual Culture, Public Opinion, Politics of Images, History of Documentary Photography, Introduction to Communication Research, and City and the Image.
His published articles and book chapters focus on photojournalism, framing of news, visual representations of otherness and collective identifications.
Ilija Tomanic Trivundza is currently Vice-President of the European Communication Research and Education Association (ECREA) and President of Slovene Communication Association. He has been Programme director and Project coordinator of the ECREA European Communication Research and Education Association Doctoral Summer School (Erasmus IP project, 2010-2012).
He is currently a co-editor of ECREA book series (published by Routledge), and a member of editorial board of journals Media Transformations, CM: Communication Management Quarterly, and The Central European Journal of Communication. He is also a co-editor of Fotografija magazine and has been involved in a number of educational and artistic projects organised by the magazine.
