Dejan Verčič, Ph.D. is a Professor and a Head of Centre for Marketing and Public Relations at the University of Ljubljana. He holds a Ph.D. from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). In 1991-1993 he oversaw founding of the Slovenian national news agency (STA) and served as its first managing director. He has published 14 books and more than 300 articles, book chapters and conference papers. For The Global Public Relations Handbook (Routledge, New York, 2003 and 2009) he was awarded the PRIDE Award by the National Communication Association (USA). Prof. Verčič served, inter alia, as the chairman of the Research Committee of the IABC Research Foundation (he is also a member of the IABC 500 Club) and as the President of the European Public Relations Education and Research Association (EUPRERA). In 2000 and in 2010 he received special awards by the Public Relations Society of Slovenia, and in 2001 he was awarded the Alan Campbell-Johnson Medal for outstanding service to international public relations by the UK Chartered Institute of Public Relations (of which he is a Fellow). Since 1994, he organizes an annual International Public Relations Research Symposium – BledCom, and since 2007 he is a member of the European Communication Monitors (ECM) research team. In academic year 2013/2014 he was a Fulbright scholar at the San Diego State University (USA). Before moving full-time to university, Dr. Verčič was an entrepreneur and a communication consultant.
