Anyone who presents a valid identity card, signs a statement and is prepared to consider the library policy, can become a member of the library. Fines (for late returns), reminders and other services are charged according to the library price list. For regular and part-time students of the University of Ljubljana, a single membership card fee is included in the price of enrolment for the current academic year.

Library members may borrow material (to take home) with a green or yellow label: scientific books, professional books and study literature. Reading room material (red label: magazines, newspapers and certain books) may only be used in the reading room.
