Trust in the Future: Slovenia in the UN Security Council

On Wednesday, 22 November 2022, the Faculty of Social Sciences organized an event titled "Trust in the Future: Slovenia in the UN Security Council." The guest speaker was the Slovenian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Tanja Fajon. After her brief excursion down the memory lane, as an alumnus of the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Minister addressed Slovenia's candidacy for non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council between 2024 and 2025. She highlighted the main points of Slovenian candidacy – conflict prevention, transparency, women's agenda, peace and security, climate, water diplomacy, and food security. Following the lecture, the Minister answered several questions from the audience, in which she shared Slovenia's views on the current issues that Slovenian foreign policy and the European Union are facing.

After the discussion, the Minister visited the East Asia Resource Library (EARL). The staff introduced her to the history of the EARL, its wealth of resources available to the public, and plans for the reinvigorated Research Unit. Ideas for co-operation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the EARL have also been exchanged.
