You are cordially invited to attend the EARL Day marking the development of East Asia Resource Library and University of Ljubljana's centenary and presentation of a book:
“Processes and Relations in in East Asia”
held at the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts (Novi trg 3, Ljubljana),
that will take place on the 19 December from 9.00 to 20.30.
The EARL was founded in 2016 by the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Social Sciences, with the aim of evolving the scope of East Asian studies at the University of Ljubljana. Today, it is the central point for those students, practitioners and scholars who wish to explore East Asia, either its language or culture, as well as international relations or business. In order to assure a wide selection of knowledge, the EARL offers a unique collection of digitalized primary sources, data, printed books and electronic sources available online in languages of the East Asian region, English and other world languages. The EARL is also designed to keep up with the fast pace at which the world is changing, and frequently hosts a range of open events, which focus on relevant topics for its users.
EARL Day, titled “Processes and Relations in in East Asia”, is part of the series of events commemorating the centenary of the University of Ljubljana. In light of this, the participating speakers will not only look back on the beginning of East Asian studies at the University of Ljubljana but will touch on the topic concerning our present and future, such as the Belt and Road Initiative, challenges for businesses and science, and the humanities’ aspects of East Asia. The keynote speakers will include prof. dr. Igor Papič (rector of the University of Ljubljana), prof. dr. Jernej Pikalo (Minister of Education), prof. dr. Monika Kalin Golob (Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences) and prof. dr. Roman Kuhar (Dean of the Faculty of Arts). After a short reflection by the pioneers of East Asian Studies in Slovenia, panel discussions titled “At the Junction of Concepts and Culture”, “Of Belts and Roads” and “Challenges of Business and Science” will follow.
To attend it is necessary to apply here. The applications will be open until 18 December. The event will be held in Slovenian language.
