At the lecture - Transforming Buddhist organisations through disaster relief in Taiwan and Japan

As part of the EARL special series of lectures celebrating the centenary of the University of Ljubljana, on 11th December 2019 Dr Maja Veselič presented a lecture titled » Transforming Buddhist organisations through disaster relief in Taiwan and Japan«.

The lecture presented the main features of traditional Buddhist schools in Japan and Taiwan and the development of their humanitarian social engagement, partly after the example of organized humanitarianism within Christianity. Disaster relief saw many Buddhist schools mobilized. In the last couple of decades, those efforts stimulated institutionalization of Buddhist humanitarianism as well as innovative religious practices and technological solutions.
