2 Open PhD positions in a Research Project on the Statistical Modelling of International Arms Trade Flows

2 PhD positions for 36 months (75 % of a full TV-L E13 position)

Project Description:
The project investigates international arms trade using statistical network analysis. The data come from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) and the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO) and describe the bilateral trading of arms between states from 1945 to most recent period. The aim of the project is to develop and apply appropriate statistical techniques for dynamic valued networks.
Requirements:
· Excellent Master degrees in Statistics or Quantitative
Political Science or a related field (e.g. Mathematics/Econometrics)
· Strong interest in Social Science applications of statistical
models
· Experiences in R, applied and numerical statistics and
network analyses are desirable but not a requirement
Conditions for PhD Study:
Successful applicants are integrated into ongoing interdisciplinary research groups at the Center for Empirical Studies (CEST), the Quantitative Network Science (QNetS) at the Center for Advanced Studies (CAS), and the PhD program ‘Statistics: Theory and Methods of Empirical Modeling.’ Structured training of necessary skills will be provided and financed during the whole period.
