Venice School of Human Rights


The programme of 2014 Venice School of Human Rights will open with keynote lectures by Martin Scheinin (former UN Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms while countering terrorism, and professor of International Law and Human Rights at the European University Institute of Florence) and William Schabas (professor of International Law at Middlesex University in London and professor of International Criminal Law and Human Rights at Leiden University).
After a joint plenary session introducing current challenges faced in the human rights profession, participants will attend the cluster of their choice for in-depth analysis.
The 3 selected topics of the 2014 Venice School are:

  • Business and Human Rights
  • The Internationalisation of Migration Law and the Role of the EU
  • Freedom of Expression and Assembly Online
We are honoured to welcome François Crépeau (United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights of Migrants since 2011 and Hans & Tamar Oppenheimer Professor in Public International Law at the Faculty of Law of McGill University) as member of the faculty of the Venice School 2014 among other international recognised scholars and experts in the above mentioned areas.
Join other human rights defenders, practitioners of international organisations and graduate students from different continents to discuss some of the most important current challenges faced by human rights actors worldwide.
