Research Unit Intern (International Crisis Group)

The International Crisis Group is seeking an intern to work for six months with the Brussels Research Unit, starting in March 2013. The internship would suit a candidate with a recent degree in international relations, conflict studies, political science or similar.  

Responsibilities:

  •  Research and draft background materials on conflict issues for Research Unit staff and field personnel;
  • Assist with the preparation and publication of CrisisWatch, Crisis Group's monthly bulletin on conflict around the world;
  •  Assist in proofreading and preparing Crisis Group reports for publication;
  • Maintain and update the Research Unit's conflict prevention library and intranet;
  •  Assist in updating Crisis Group's website;
  •  Carry out administrative duties relevant to the Research Unit's work;
  •  Provide support to the office of the President as directed; and
  •  Provide general administrative support to the Brussels office.

Requirements:

  •  A degree in law, international relations, conflict studies, political science or similar;
  •  Demonstrated interest in and knowledge of conflict/peace and security issues, with background in the Middle East and North Africa region preferred;
  •  English language skills at native-speaker level; French or other language is an asset;
  •  Professional experience within an international relations environment/NGO is desirable;
  •  Highly organised and able to pay close attention to detail;
  •  Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office and online research tools; and
  •  Authorisation to work in Belgium.
