Obisk študentov mednarodnih odnosov na Ministrstvu za zunanje in evropske zadeve Republike Slovenije

V torek, 16. aprila 2024, so študenti 2. letnika Mednarodnih odnosov in izmenjalni študenti programa Erasmus+ v okviru predmeta Zunanja politika obiskali prostore slovenskega Ministrstva za zunanje in evropske zadeve.

International Relations students visit the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia

On Tuesday, 16 April 2024, 2nd year International Relations students and Erasmus+ exchange students visited the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia in the framework of the Foreign Policy course. The four-hour programme offered a tour of the Ministry's premises, with a focus on the protocol site, led by Dr Andraž Zidar, Head of the Ministry's Diplomatic Academy, and Alenka Žigon from the Protocol Service. The students continued their visit in the large meeting room of the Ministry, where they were addressed and held discussions with the Ministry's officials: Tina Trtnik from the Human Resources Department, Spela Lajmiš - Deputy Head of the Working Group on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), Peter Grk - National Coordinator for the Western Balkans and Secretary General of the Bled Strategic Forum,  Mateja Norčič Štamcar, MA - Director General of the Directorate of Political Affairs and Sabina Stadler Repnik - Head of the Strategic Studies and Analysis Service. The students learned first-hand about the day-to-day work of diplomats. The conversation particularly highlighted the involvement of the Ministry's working bodies in the day-to-day cooperation with the Permanent Representation to the UN, in particular as an elected member of the UN Security Council, as well as with the Permanent Representation to the European Union (EU) and the working groups of the Council of the EU. EU enlargement to the Western Balkans was discussed as a key foreign policy interest of Slovenia and a briefing given on the process of drafting a new foreign policy strategy of the country. The students attached great importance to the personal insight into the work of a diplomat; the speakers stressed that rather than a mere profession, being a diplomat is a way of life that requires the whole person and their family. The experience of visiting the Ministry was very positive for the students, who were for the opportunity to observe one of their possible future jobs stemming from the professional profile based on International Relations study programme.
