Do you want to meet young people from Germany, France and the European Union, as well as from the EU accession candidate countries and the European Union's Southern and Eastern neighbours to discuss topics like war and peace together as part of an international, intercultural meeting, from November 14 to 18 in Berlin?
Are you interested in Europe, history and peace? Do you want to learn more about World War I and its consequences? Do you want to know how other societies experienced the war and how you can personally contribute to a peaceful future in and around Europe? Do you have ideas for peace in and around Europe that you want to carry forward?
As part of a dialogue with representatives from the fields of science, media, politics and culture, you will have the opportunity to discuss or creatively implement different topics in workshops. There will also be on-site activities in peace education, as well as an exciting supplemental programme that includes alternative city tours, a film and football night and visiting places of remembrance and memorials in Berlin. This youth meeting will give you the chance to meet new people and learn what your peers in other countries think of the topic of war and peace in and around Europe and in the world. The remembrance of the millions who died during the First World War (1914-1918) and its repercussions takes very different shapes in each of the societies and countries involved.
Following youth events at Hartmannswillerkopf in the French Vosges (2014) and in Verdun (2016), this big youth gathering in November 2018 in Berlin will offer the opportunity to discuss the First World War's lessons for peaceful coexistence no longer solely on a Franco-German level, but also on a European and international level. The high point and conclusion of the gathering will be an event on November 18 during which results from the workshops and concrete ideas for peace will be transmitted to political decision-makers and discussed with them.
