Mentor of the Year 2018

On Tuesday, March 19, 2019, the Presidential Palace in Ljubljana hosted the event for the Mentor of the year 2018 prize. The event was organized for the 10th consecutive year and is intended for the best mentors of doctoral students. Among the nominees for the prize was also assoc. prof. Katja Lozar Manfreda, PhD, from the Chair of Social Informatics and Methodology. Under her mentoring, Gregor Čehovin, otherwise master and graduate of Social Informatics, successfully completed the training of a young researcher and defended the doctoral dissertation titled The contribution of meta-analysis to knowledge on survey research operations on nonresponse.

The former PhD student proposed assoc. prof. Katja Lozar Manfreda, PhD, for the nomination because he assessed that her help as a mentor was a key contribution to developing the dissertation into an integral whole, as well as to his other research achievements. In the justification he wrote, among other things, that the mentor always took the time for regular meetings, and also encouraged defining a clear work plan, development of one's own ideas, acquisition of new skills, effective communication with the co-supervisor, networking with local and foreign colleagues, and the proper organization of the work-life relationship.

Of the 50 nominees, the winner of the Mentor of the year 2018 prize was prof. dr. Barbara Koroušić Seljak from the Institute Jožef Stefan. The event was organized by Mlada akademija in cooperation with the Slovenian Research Agency (ARRS). The honorary patron of this year's 10th anniversary was President of the Republic, Borut Pahor.
