Gregor Čehovin presented a paper on survey breakoffs at GOR 2017 conference

Gregor Čehovin from the Centre for Social Informatics attended the General Online Reearch (GOR) 2017 conference. During the C11 session he presented the paper titled Implications of disposition codes for monitoring breakoffs in web surveys, which was prepared together with prof. Vasja Vehovar, PhD.

The presented study compares introduction breakoffs (occurring at the start of the questionnaire) and questionnaire breakoffs (occurring at some later point in the questionnaire) and defines them as separate types. In addition, the paper provides a conceptual framework that relates both breakoff types to the AAPOR Final Disposition Codes for Internet Surveys, and proposes monitoring breakoffs in web surveys in greater detail. Practical applications are shown in the empirical metastudy of 7,676 web surveys, which were conducted in 1KA open source survey software from 2009 to 2014.

In 2017 the GOR conference took place Berlin, Germany from 15 to 17 March. It is annually organized by the German Society for Online Research in cooperation with a local partner. In 2017, the local organizer was the HTW Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft Berlin/University of Applied Sciences. The German Society for Online-Research (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Online-Forschung) is an association specializing in online research. Online research is an extremely innovative research area comprising not only the classical fields of online research methods but also mobile and social media research.
