The conclusion of the international conference Culture and Technics

How to think about and research new forms of technologically generated culture and overcome prejudices and outdated concepts related to previous forms of culture and technology was the central question of the international conference Culture and Technics, which took place from 3 to 5 December at the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ljubljana.

Aleš Črnič Elected Deputy General Secretary of IAHR – The International Association for the History of Religions

The Department of Cultural Studies and the Centre for Cultural and Religious Studies are pleased to announce that their member, Prof. Dr. Aleš Črnič, was elected Deputy General Secretary of the International Association for the History of Religions (IAHR). The election took place at the session of the 23rd IAHR Congress, held on August 26, 2025, in Kraków.

On May 16, 2025, the second round table on the establishment of a regional cultural network took place in Palach, Rijeka. The round table was attended by cultural studies scholars from the universities of Ljubljana, Rijeka and Belgrade.

Exchange at Kyungpook National University (KNU) in Daegu, South Korea

At the end of March 2025, Jasmina Šepetavc, a researcher at the Centre for Cultural and ReligiousStudies, participated in a short-term Erasmus+ exchange at Kyungpook National University (KNU) in Daegu, South Korea. During her visit, she gave a lecture on Slovenian popular music, with a particular focus on folk-pop music and the Centre's recently completed project Slovenian​Folk-Pop as​Politics:​Perceptions,​Receptions,​an Identities. Jasmina presented the characteristics of this musical genre to students and faculty members, and discussed how music can reflect and shape national and regional identities.
