The new, cultural-studies themed issue of Social Science Forum journal has just been published!

At the beginning of October, the Academic Reading Room of Aleš Debeljak hosted the third Fusnota – an event celebrating and awarding outstanding student achievements from the previous academic year. Creativity, humour, and excitement filled the room from start to finish. The jury, composed of Prof. Ksenija Šabec, Prof. Peter Stanković, Zala Julija Kavčič, Eva Rogl Mežnar, and Asst. Teja Kosi, faced the difficult task of selecting the best works from 61 nominations across 11 categories. The evening, moderated by Gaia Merlak Gnamuš and Prof. Jernej Kaluža, concluded with the traditional freshman party organised by the student association Kult.co.

We are pleased to announce that the Center for Cultural and Religious Studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences has been awarded a 2-year grant for the targeted research project entitled Slovenian Music between the Market, Audience, and Cultural Policy: An Empirical Analysis of the Music Ecosystem.

In April 2026, the Center for Cultural and Religious Studies will host the ACS Institute on the topic of Decolonial Strategies and Memory Work in Popular Culture.

The International Association for the Study of Popular Music – Central, Eastern and SouthEastern Europe (IASPM CESE) held its first international conference on September 11–12, 2025 at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland.

Assistant Professor Jasmina Šepetavc, PhD, researcher at the Center for Cultural and Religious Studies (CCRS) and lecturer at the Department of Cultural Studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ljubljana, is the recipient of the prestigious European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant project.

The election took place at the session of the 23rd IAHR Congress, held on August 26, 2025, in Kraków.

We are pleased to announce the publication of the 1st reprint of the multi-author monograph Alpenecho: Slovenian Folk-Pop Music in Contemporary Cultural, Political and Media Contexts, edited by Natalija Majsova and Peter Stanković.

This academic year, a Student Film Club, Kinoklub has been launched at the FSS, as a space where students are not just spectators, but actively participate, discuss and create a community of cinephiles.

On 26 May 2025, second year students of Cultural Studies (and other enthusiasts) took part in a field trip to Venice to work on their project assignments in street photography for the Cultures of Creativity course.
