Vasja Vehovar at the Meta Economic Roundtable: Exploring the potential of the Metaverse

On November 29th 2023, Vasja Vehovar, PhD, Head of the Centre for Social Informatics and leader of the Safer Internet Centre project, participated in the Meta Economic Roundtable: Exploring the potential of the Metaverse. The meeting was organised by Visegrad Insight in cooperation with Meta. The main topic of the roundtable was the economic potential of the Metaverse and the opportunities, challenges and consequences it presents for Central and Eastern Europe.

The Metaverse is a concept of combining virtual and real worlds in cyberspace, extending the internet with previously inaccessible features. Despite its relative infancy, the metaverse is attracting attention and significant investments, opening the door to many opportunities for early adopters. At the same time, the Metaverse also brings new concerns to the fields of privacy, security, regulation and inequality - all of which need to be thoroughly explored before the concept can be responsibly implemented in the European economy.
