Prof. dr. Michael Bosnjak's visit at CSI
Between March 4th and 5th 2025, the Centre for Social Informatics was visited by prof. dr. Michael Bosnjak. He held his main presentation on March 4th at 12.00 in lecture room 18, where he outlined the areas of his research: Research synthesis methods, Meta-Analysis, Survey research and Machine Learning-supported inference methods.
During his visit, we have also processed some of the formalities regarding his part-time employment at the CSI, which will greately enrich the work of the basic research program Internet Research, as well as formalize more than two decades of fruitful collaborations.
CSI members have been collaborating with prof. Bosnjak since the EU project Web Survey Methodology in the years 2003 - 2005, which was coordinated by the Faculty for Social Sciences. As co-authors, CSI members have published 5 articles in prestigious journals with prof. Bosnjak so far, incuding the most prominent article Web surveys versus other survey modes: A meta-analysis comparing response rates (2008), which has over 1.700 citations in Google Scholar. Prof. Bosnjak has also been a co-mentor to two young researchers at CSI (Anže Sendelbah and Gregor Čehovin), and has also been a guest lecturer at the University of Ljubljana's doctorate programs since 2016.
Prof. dr. Bosnjak is currently a Full Professor and head of department for Psychological Research Methods at the University of Trier. Prior to that, he has already been in several leading roles such as the director of the Leibniz Institute for Psychology (2017 - 2021) and the scientific director of Epidemiology and Health Monitoring at the Robert Koch-Institute (2022). He is a researcher with an impressive pool of scientific publications: 5 books, 27 book chapters, 107 research articles and more then 67 guest lectures. His citations in Google Scholar total over 14.500 citations as of January 2025, making him one of the most cited researchers in the field of social science methodology. Prof. dr. Bosnjak is also the chief editor of the prestigious journal Zeitschrift für Psychologie.
